Who We Are

Africa Urban Cycling Organization was incorporated as a nonprofit international organization (international utility) in accordance with the law, registered and based in Abuja, Nigeria.

It is an umbrella organization, bringing together various organizations and individuals with a substantial interest in cycling in the African continent. It represents Africa as a member of the World Cycling Alliance, a global cycling organization registered in Brussels, Belgium. (https://www.worldcyclingalliance.org)

  • Our Vision
    To lead the advocacy, research, networking and promotion of cycling as a reliable means of transport (including for tourism and leisure) in Africa and for peoples living in Africa.
  • Our Goal
    To build the collaboration required for engaging decision makers in Africa with a view to making cycling a reliable, safe and sustainable mode of transport in urban centers in Africa.
    To engage, promote and support the global exchange of knowledge, expertise and cooperation of cycling advocates and organizations.

Our Objectives

  • To serve as umbrella body for cycling NGOs, firms academic/research institutions, multi/Bilateral organization and individuals Africa-wide
  • To be the fulcrum for harnessing and dissemination of knowledge, best practices and initiatives in the promotion of cycling (and matters coincidental to it) as a mode of transport.
  • To serve as pressure group to governments of Africa for the purpose of improving policies, regulations and investments that makes cycling and urban mobility safe and sustainable.
  • To be an interface between international institutions (e.g. AU, UN, OECD/ITF, AfDB, World Bank, WHO, UNHABITAT, UNEP, etc) with the aim of increasing attention and investment for cycling in Africa.
  • To improve public awareness and generate public interest to take up cycling as a transport mode choice thereby increasing the modal share.
